Ecotimber can supply a range of timbers suitable for use in marine and civil
construction, such as piling, groynes, wharf and bridge construction, etc.
Although some species may not be familiar in the British Isles, they are
widely used in these applications in the countries of origin as well as in other
countries and in most cases substantial research data supporting their
suitability is available.
Our timber falls into two categories, sawn timber and piling.
Sawn Timber
A wide range of species is available as sawn timber, in standard dimensions
of up to 100mm x 200mm x 6.00m see the timber information sheets. Larger
sizes usually available to order.
Piling Timber
A number of species have been selected for use in marine piling. The main
criteria on which they were selected are strength and durability in a marine
environment, taking into consideration such aspects as resistance to teredo worm
and abrasion.
Currently the following species are available as round timber, in diameters
up to 500 mm and lengths of up to 12 m.
- Acariquara Minquartia guianensis
- Abiurana Pouteria sp.
- Castanharana Holopyxidium sp.
- Cloeziana Eucalyptus cloeziana
- Mata-Mata Eschweileria sp.
